First eBI Conference Underscores Importance of Analytics for eCommerce

Daman Consulting and Other Industry Leaders Launch Major Business Intelligence Event

AUSTIN, TX—June 22, 2000— Daman Consulting, a leading provider of enterprise business intelligence and enterprise integration solutions, has announced The eBI Conference to be held today at the Austin Convention Center. The all-day event is the first in Austin, Texas devoted to business intelligence, analytic applications, and how they are essential to the success of Internet-based businesses today. Keynote speakers include James O’Neill, co-founder and COO of Garden.com, and Janelle Hill, Research Director of Gartner. More information is available at http://www.damanconsulting.com/ebi.

Sponsored by Daman Consulting, Acxiom, Brio Technology, Informatica Corporation, Intelligent Enterprise, and Microsoft, The eBI Conference comes at a critical juncture in the history of e-commerce as dot-com and e-business companies adjust to a major shakeout in the marketplace. Some industry observers believe that business intelligence and its ability to leverage customer data, personalize user experiences, support customer relationship management and enhance the integrated supply-chain will provide a crucial advantage for dot-coms and other e-commerce organizations.

"Analytical capabilities have become a major competitive edge for e-commerce solutions these days," said Michael Schiff, Director of Data Warehousing and Business Intelligence Strategies for Current Analysis. "It's a completely new market out there this year, and business intelligence is critical, both for dot-com startups and established business with an e-commerce solution already in place. In order to thrive, and perhaps even survive, in the e-commerce marketplace, companies must be able to analyze existing visitor and customer behavior and identify additional revenue producing opportunities."

Along with Daman Consulting. the event is sponsored by the leading names in the business intelligence arena, including Acxiom, a global leader in real-time Customer Data Integration and Customer Relationship Management; Brio Technology, a major business intelligence software provider offering solutions for decision processing; Informatica, a leading provider of e-business analytic solutions, Intelligent Enterprise magazine, a premier industry publication; and Microsoft, a worldwide leader in software, including platforms for enterprise business intelligence solutions.

Presentations include executive overviews of the most effective eBI technologies and solutions, plus detailed case studies from the field, in-depth technical discussions of methods and techniques, and product/solution demos. Discussion topics include the following areas:

  • The eBI lifecycle: which analytics should be introduced at each stage in a .com company’s life
  • Webhousing and making sense of clickstream
  • The data warehouse as a core competence of a .com or click-and-mortar company
  • Website personalization
  • Closed-loop systems
  • Real-time data acquisition
  • Analytics in the B2B chain
  • Customer Relationship Management

"Organizations that effectively exchange information between their business partners will discover new, more productive market opportunities." said Katherine Glassey, CTO, Brio Technology. "Interactive, web-based analytics will be the breakthrough application that changes the dynamics of Business to Business relationships. Those who do analytics well will dominate in the new economy."

"Leveraging enterprise data from across multiple channels to gain business insight is an essential ingredient for e-businesses’ success," said Val Rayzman, vice president of e-business solutions at Informatica. "Informatica's data-integration platform and its broad portfolio of analytic applications are ideally suited for integration and analysis of disparate online, offline and third-party data sources. We are committed to providing the leading Internet software for powering multi-channel e-business intelligence, and we welcome the opportunity to discuss this important topic at The eBI Conference."

"Companies today, both dot-coms and traditional, are finding that business intelligence systems are a necessary part of their IT strategy," said Steve Murchie, SQL Server Group Program Manager, Microsoft. "Faced with this reality, companies are looking for proven, cost-effective and flexible technologies for implementing their business intelligence systems and realizing the benefits back into their operations. Microsoft technologies are a great platform for these requirements, and we're excited about the opportunity to discuss and show these benefits at The eBI Conference."

"The market shakeout in recent months only emphasizes the importance of establishing substantive revenue models where winning and keeping customers is key. No e-business today can hope to do so competitively without fully leveraging business intelligence," said Gita Lal, CEO and President of Daman Consulting. "The successful companies will be the ones who ‘get it’ in terms of analytics, and that’s exactly where this conference can help, with information-rich keynotes, discussions, technical presentations, and case studies."

Attendees for the conference can register online at http://www.damanconsulting.com/ebi. Registration is also available by phone at 1-888-680-4985.
