Daman Delivers SAP Solution In
Record Time
The clock was ticking
Ask any IT professional. The outcome of a major implementation effort can often be measured
against the clock. Getting the job done right means getting it done on time.
A recent SAP R/3 implementation for a leading Midwestern food processor was no different. The company wanted to
optimize operations by migrating core legacy applications to an enterprise SAP financial, sales and distribution
system. However, the time frame available for implementation was extremely narrow.
With no time to lose, Daman Incorporated was called to help design and develop a large number of interfaces and conversions,
a critical part of the implementation process.
Careful planning
Because the SAP implementation involved multiple projects with diverse objectives, Daman knew that only the most
careful planning and organization would ensure that critical milestones would be met.
In their initial assessment, Daman determined the company's data movement needs at a precise level, not only for
the SAP migration but also on an ongoing basis. Daman also developed a project plan for the development of the
data migration and interfaces, identified training needs for the client, determined the methodology and approach,
and defined key deliverables and project phrases.
At the same time, Daman designed a comprehensive data movement architecture for all the interfaces and conversions
required for data movement. Daman also guided and educated the company's implementation team in the development
of specifications and conversions to and from SAP.
Fast results with the right tools
Daman was able to complete up to 80 interfaces a month, some of them developed in a matter of hours, despite numerous
design changes.
Fast work like this was the result of both the right skills and the right tools. Daman used ETI Solution® Tool Suite to help automate the data movement process. Using ETI Solution, Daman consultants were able to meet milestones throughout the project.
Training makes a difference
Daman played an important role in the ongoing mentoring and training of company personnel in the use of ETI Solution and in deploying conversions in all phrases of the migration process.
As a measure of Daman's training success, almost all conversions are now being driven by the company's implementation
team.
Benefits, now and in the future
For the company, Daman Incorporated was able to deliver:
- Early and more complete source system analysis
- A high level of process control based on carefully managed analysis, design, construction, testing,
and production
- Rapid development of interfaces, typically showing a 60% savings over manually coded efforts
- Development of a data movement infrastructure that has improved the company's ongoing ability
both to rapidly implement new strategic decision-support applications and to migrate to more flexible platforms
